Rostelecom: Russia may delay 5G coverage of 10 big cities till 2024

MOSCOW, Feb 28 (PRIME) – The Russia government is discussing delaying coverage of 10 cities with more than 1 million people with 5G till 2024 from the earlier planned 2022, Alesya Mamchur, head for strategic development at state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom, said on Friday at a Fitch conference.

Rostelecom and state industrial corporation Rostec submitted a roadmap of high-tech development, devoted to 5G, to the government.

“The presented document contains a plan of coverage of 10 cities, although the national program mentions other deadline, from 2024. This is because of the prospects of the local equipment use and settlement of the frequencies matter,” Mamchur said.

The date of providing all 15 cities with population over 1 million may be delayed till 2026.
